Doing the King’s internship is a ‘year of growing faith’ and part of that is financial. The course fees (currently £1,050) cover about half of what it costs the church to train an intern and is mainly spent on mission trips and transport.
Interns are also expected to fund their own living costs, although many are eligible for financial support as their income is low. We encourage interns to support raise in the lead up to the programme. Ideally they write to family, friends and those from home churches asking for prayer, and where possible financial support for the year. Even small amounts given regularly mount up and access to a ‘stewardship’ account means that this can be done in a tax efficient way.
The staff team will advise successful applicants on how to go about fundraising and on accommodation options within Durham. (Often Interns chose to live in a shared rental property or with other members of the church community – this is usually not a problem as rental property is plentiful in Durham.)
We encourage interns to communicate regularly with their supporters and help them with budgeting as required.
