Internlog Entry
Of Moments in Mission
Welcome to this week's internlog...
To pick up from where Andy left us last week mid-mission in London, we all continued to have a fantastic time seeing God at work through us and the other Ichthus ‘delegates.’
Numbers continued to soar at the Forest Hill kids club and this also provided the opportunity for the boys to dress up as Jack (of Jack and Jill fame). This was particularly amusing when Jon-Jack was abandoned briefly outside Sainsbury’s, providing an unusual photo opportunity for passing drivers. An arts and crafts fair on Saturday also went really well and saw Jonny and Jo trying their hand at face-painting. They also joined the worship band on Sunday morning for church where several familiar faces from the week appeared, some for the first time at a church service.
One of the main events at Southcroft was a street party organised by a family who had only recently joined the church. Sunshine, BBQ, music and face-painting all teamed up to set the atmosphere for a really relaxed and fun day which also included a testimony from a member of the family describing how much more joy he got from going to church than from clubbing since he became a Christian. And praise God that a lady gave her life to Jesus that day.
In Sittingbourne, Saturday was a day of outreach in the town centre which included drama, worship on the streets, praying for passers-by, inviting them to church and prayer walking. A big crowd gathered to watch the ‘Lifehouse Skit’ which clearly portrays the message of the cross. So even though we didn’t have the chance to chat to everyone afterwards, we know that they all had something to take away and think about which was ace! Having been doing street evangelism all week, I personally really enjoyed being able to pray for whole families, that God would bless them, and prayer walking with some teens who had only given their lives to Jesus the night before!
We all returned to Durham Sunday/ Monday pretty exhausted after the week but all with so many amazing stories of God’s goodness- the above is all I could fit on the Internlog! So we enjoyed our day off on Monday when we could catch up on some sleep and mull over what we’d heard and seen.
Since then we’ve slid back into our regular routine although with slight variation. Jo and Lou are helping out with Pipsqueaks for the last few weeks of term and had loads of fun getting messy with toddlers this morning.
Placements are also starting to draw to a close. Jonny had a nice fun last dive involving a treasure hunt and the High School finishes this week so we saw the girls for the last time which was a good opportunity for cake and games but also quite sad that we won’t be seeing them again. I think everyone is starting to realise that the year is very nearly over which is stirring up lots of different emotions.
The final couple of weeks have lots of exciting things in store though and we’re not done yet!
Few prayer points:
- Finishing well. Especially saying goodbye to people on placements who we’ve got to know well over the last year.
- For good sleep in the wake of missions- so we can do the above!
- For those of us who are still sorting jobs and/or houses for next year.
Thank you!
