“Things are about to KICK OFF”

Posted by Jonny Barthow on Thursday 10th June 2010

Jonny Barthow

Hello readers of the log,

As Lou mentioned in the last log, last week was quiet week and we definitely made the most of the extra free time and good weather. On the Thursday a few of us spent a lovely day at Wharton Park including a barbeque, playing Frisbee, reading and chillaxing in the sun.

On the Friday night, Youth café took place. “It was a laugh. We played rounders outside and kept it real.” Andy Symmons, 2010

Last Saturday Lou, Jenny and I attended an Aquila Way Volunteer Recognition event in Wylam, the birthplace of George Stephenson. This included a treasure hunt, tea and scones and a certificate presentation.

Our school placements have been going well. At the High School, Andy and Sarah did a session on being light involving candles. Jenny and I looked at the fruit of the spirit with our group of girls, and we ended by praying for the fruit that we felt we needed the most. At Durham Johnson, Lou and Andy looked at the prodigal son. In Gilesgate Comp., Jo’s music group has been going well. There’s a summer concert coming up that Jo can’t be at, so pray that they will be able to perform without her.

Jo also had a good time in prison. The music group she helps at there is going well and the 2 tracks they’ve been recording are nearly finished.

On Tuesday, Sarah celebrated her birthday in style. In the evening we went to South Shields in the rain where we had fish and chips and played team games on the beach (involving eggs). This ended in several us going swimming in the sea. It was great fun.

Stuff for June Project is coming together very nicely. Paul Burgess (and his little assistant, Symmo) have finally managed to postition the TV satellite in a place that means we can watch the world cup in the Appleby rooms (huzzah!) Ed is on top of organising gardens and Jenny and Lou have received lots of replies from people who are going to provide art for the art space. We’re all really looking forward to the week ahead, and the different ways God is going to work through us and all of the delegates and participants in reaching out to Durham.

Prayer requests:

  • Interact on Monday – cream tea event for international students. Pray that lots of students will come along and that they’ll feel welcomed and will have good conversations.
  • Pray for the Gilesgate comp. concert – that the girls will be confident in performing without Jo
  • Pray for June Project – that we will be on top of everything we have to organise and that during the project we’ll be effective in reaching out to the city.

Logging off, Jonny
