Fun, Fellowship and Food!
Fun: It has been another week of fun for us interns this week, beginning with the Friday morning outreach, which saw us split into our Gilesgate and Newton Hall teams and continue to flyer and talk to people about gardening projects and other June Project related events. In the evening another dedicated team of students went with Jon Kitley to the library to do After Hours there again, which was met with a similarly warm response to the week before.
Fellowship: This week has also been a great opportunity to build upon the relationships we have built in our placements, particularly in the schools. At Durham High, the girls looked at the Holy Spirit with Jonny and Jenny, and creative prayers with Andy and Sarah. The kids at the Johnston had fun mummifying themselves as we looked at Lazarus, while the older kids looked with Jon at how we can worship God in every aspect of their lives. Meanwhile at Gilesgate the music group that Jo and Kate lead are continuing to prepare for their performance in a few weeks. They also had a successful pampering evening for the girls there on the Wednesday night.
Food: The big event of the week was the Interact meal on the Monday evening. The Interact team were joined by a number of interns and students to help serve Andy Nunn's special recipe Bangers and Mash. The evening was a real success, the Appleby Rooms were full and everyone seemed to enjoy taking a bit of time away from their studies and exams. Meanwhile, at Aquila Way, Jonny and Andy helped out with an event called 'Soul Soup', a big community event for the opening of an outdoor art exhibition with the mayor. Children from local schools participated in a parade with everyone getting a bag of vegetables to make soup!
