We left you at the end of the last Intern-log on Friday night at the brink of the Saturday’s missional tour de force. A day of balloons, burgers and bouncy castles kicked off with the Newton and Gilesgate fun-days, followed by the Oswald Park Fayre, the Emmanuel fun-day, the launch of the ‘Bless a Business’ handbook and the Durham Banquet.
My own team- challenged with putting on a free community banquet- started our day chopping onions with the dawn chorus. After some prayer and worship, we left the other teams in the capable hands of Jon Parker and headed off into the city to pick up food donations from shops, to ferry tables from college to cathedral and to carry on cooking the food. We were so blessed by the generosity of shops, cafés and restaurants, residents and helpers. After planning for a 200 person upper-limit, God blew us away with over 400 lunch guests, and consistently provided the helpers and food to meet the need.
After the banquet we joined lots of other delegates at the Oswald Fayre. Oswald’s Park was transformed into a micro-festival featuring bands, brownies, Lickety Split ice-cream, BBQ, Sumo suits, craft stalls and face-painting. Guests were also invited into the ‘Y Tent’ where they engaged with some big questions about Jesus and the Christian faith; Another brilliant event of fun, friendship and gospel conversations.
The Delegates then collected together after their respective events, for the end-of-June-Project celebration- sharing testimonies together before ending with prayer and worship. The Project was a demonstration to us all of how God can use the actions of people like us to build his kingdom.
The guest service, complete with 3 baptisms, a drama and Chris Morgan’s marvellous June-Project report video was a packed occasion. Ruth delivered a gospel message and at least one person gave their life to Christ after the service.
The following week has been occupied largely with sleep and recovery, and a day at the School of Theology learning from Paul Jones, Mark Bonnington and Jon Parker on missional theology and Paul.
Please pray:
