NE1 Garden Projects

This year from 23rd-29th July 2006 teams of young people put their faith into action by becoming involved in a variety of community based church run projects. The aim of NE1 was to have around 3,000 young people, from the North East and beyond, camping together for a week at Herrington Country Park (near Penshaw Monument). From there they were to go out in smaller teams to join with local churches on community projects.

King’s Church joined together with Durham City Baptist Church to spend five days clearing gardens for local people who, for whatever reason, were unable to care for their gardens. This was a fantastic opportunity to serve the local community and we cleared and helped out on over twenty gardens. It was a great week for the young people who joined the team, enabling them to meet people who they would not normally engage with. This gave a real purpose to their faith and empowered them to be able to communicate with and serve those who were in real need, either through circumstance or illness.
