Christmas Present Wrapping 2007

December 2007

Christmas Wrapping

Building on what was started last year, members of King's Church wrapped Christmas presents for busy shoppers in the run-up to Christmas. This year's free present wrapping was made all the more fun by a Generation Game styled training session to familiarise wrappers with the more tricky shapes they may be presented with.

On Saturday 8th and 15th December volunteers took to the Gates Shopping Centre in Durham city centre armed with new Christmas Wrappingskills, sticky tape, wrapping paper, and plenty of enthusiasm. We wrapped presents for all sorts of people: from busy and frustrated parents to boyfriends requiring that extra special bow for their gift.

It proved a great opportunity to meet shoppers, offering them a chance to take a break from the manic spree and chat to someone. Christmas WrappingWhilst people waited for their gifts to be bound, we provided them the opportunity to jot down a prayer request, let them know about the upcoming Carol Service, and have a mince pie.

Many people were surprised that we were doing this at no charge. That can't be right, can it? Amidst the commercialism and materialism of this season, I hope that those who discovered this free gift were able to reflect on the central message of Christmas.
